The 2016 Cadillac ELR will get a larger 17.1 kWh battery pack in model year 2016, just like the Chevy Volt did.

HybridCars says:
"The timing for the upgrade will be in a few months when the ELR sees its change-over from the 2014 model year specification to 2015, according to an industry course with knowledge of the matter."

That could mean an electric range increase from 37 miles to around 39 miles because of the extra 0.6 kWh added to the battery pack.

Official Cadillac Offers, although dealerships are offering discounts of up to $12,500 in rebates to buyers of the ELR. Leases can also be had for $499 straight from the dealerships, rather than the $699 per month offered on Cadillac's website. Cadillac also throws in a Bosch level two home charging unit, and pays for up to $3,000 in installation costs.

There won't be a 2015 ELR model year. The next ELR will be released in June 2015 and will be a 2016 model year. (It's going to take Cadillac that long to deplete it's 1,000+ inventory of ELRs still sitting on dealer lots! There are more unsold ELRs than sold at this point.)

Also, after October (or earlier), don't expect any more free 240V chargers; they're only for the first 1,000 customers.

Right - thanks for that! I've edited the post to say 2016 instead of 2015. Strange how they are skipping a year, I guess because they have stopped production to upgrade the assembly line so by the time they start again, it will be time for model year 2016!

I'm personally glad to see GM isn’t dropping the ELR, but will be very interested to see what the next gen ELR has for specs.

Will it simply be a 2nd gen Volt drivetrain in the ELR?

Or since Cadillac is moving to New York (from Detroit), will Cadillac take that chance to add more to the ELR v2.0 to make it better than Volt 2.0?
